Investing in Winchester's Young People
Winchester YMCA has a new home in St John’s House and is investing heavily in creating a quality youth venue and an inspiring youth work programme.
We aim to create a place for young people to relax and meet their friends. There will be trained youth workers to support young people. Architect’s plans have been developed with young people and there’s a real buzz of excitement around the city.
Simon Dodd, the YMCA’s new Youth Programme Manager will head up a team who will involve young people in developing the youth project. Over 500 young people have already been consulted about the project.
Mike Simpson, Chief Executive of Winchester YMCA says, “ This project aims to build on our reputation for quality youth work and focuses on empowering young people. The YMCA team will design programmes to reach young people throughout the area with the aim of helping them to fulfil their true potential. Our ambition is that this project will be nationally recognised as an example of good practice in youth work. ”
