Matt Cook - One of our Volunteers

Anne Claire

I volunteered for Winchester YMCA after Sixth Form College and before university. I was keen to get involved in something that I had never done before and make the most of my free time.

Volunteering at the YMCA gave me the opportunity to be part of a friendly, hard-working team and work towards projects that really make a difference to young people in my community.

I have had a lot of involvement with youth through the scout movement but it was great to have a different perspective on the issues facing the youth of Winchester.
I got an insight into YMCA projects such as the new youth café at St John’s House, their youth exchange with Bethlehem YMCA and the Youth Hopes and Dreams art exhibition. The organisation’s work is varied and creative. Most of all it is important for young people in the area.

I loved my time at the YMCA and although I have now left Winchester for university I am still interested in all that they do and particularly in the success of the new youth café....I will  definitely be back to visit.

Volunteers are always valued and welcomed, so why not apply for a volunteering opportunity with the Winchester YMCA Youth Programme Team? The team’s primary aim is to provide a quality provision for the young people of Winchester through its Youth Empowerment Programme.
